The Lake Eugenia Songfest

Posted by in Personal

This is my first formal announcement about something my kids and I started to plan on the Civic Holiday weekend 2010.

On the August long weekend last year a few people were celebrating a birthday by singing and playing guitars around a campfire on their lakefront.  My youngest daughter and her friend were on the dock and began singing along with them.

It occurred to me that it might be pretty cool if we got everybody who was interested to join in a singsong as sound carries so beautifully on a lake.

So nothing formal and no strings attached other than guitar strings maybe.  We are not trying to raise money for a personal cause.  I am organizing this only because I think it will help bring residents of Lake Eugenia together for one hour and the sound will be spectacular.  We have been quiet residents of the lake since 1991 and this is a way for our family to give a gift to people who live on the lake.

So we would like to invite all the residents of Lake Eugenia and their friends or relatives to join us on Saturday July 30th (that is the long weekend), at 8:00 p.m. in the Lake Eugenia Songfest.

At exactly 8:00 p.m., the evening will kick off with Sweet Caroline and then every five minutes thereafter another song will be sung.  Twelve songs over 60 minutes will be sung.  We will prepare a list of the twelve songs and song sheets that will be distributed electronically and timing will be driven by Blackberry and iPhone clocks.  So we should be reasonably coordinated.  We will be putting these together shortly.  I will use this website to post updated information.

I test marketed the idea last summer with residents on The East Shores North Cottagers’ Association and the idea was well received or maybe everybody was too  polite to tell me this is a goofy idea.

If we can get other associations to spread the word, I think we can pull this off.

If Saturday evening is miserable, it will be postponed until Sunday evening.

Maybe (and probably) I am crazy but I think the evening can be a lot of fun.
